For millennia, mushrooms have been revered by cultures across the world - from Japan, to Eastern Europe, to North America and beyond - for their culinary and medicinal potential. In this workshop we will take a foray into the natural history of various edible and medicinal mushrooms, and learn how to grow and prepare these for our own health and wellbeing. With a heightened appreciation of just how vital fungi are in safeguarding our health, we may build deeper connections with the wild ecosystems from which these fungi arise, and strive towards greater efforts for conservation and habitat restoration.

For decades, ecosystems across the world have been facing the onslaught of industrial pollution, and have been suffering dramatically as a result. From oil spills, to pesticides, to heavy metals - these anthropogenic substances are causing worldwide ecosystem collapses at an alarming rate. Recent discoveries of the ability of fungi to break down many toxins reveal the potential for healing our wounded planet and leaving a positive legacy for future generations. What’s more, certain species may even hold the keys to breaking down civilisation’s most notorious substance: plastic.
